We want church to be a place where your entire family is encouraged to draw closer to Christ—kids and parents too! That's why we offer fun and engaging environments where children can learn and grow in faith. It's our hope to encourage children to not only discover new things about God, but also begin to understand how those things matter in their own lives. We understand that parents are the primary influence in a child’s faith formation. This is why we provide resources to help parents bring what kids are learning at church to life at home.

INFANTS & TODDLERS
Nursery care is currently available for children from 3 months through the toddler years during services and discipleship hour. PRE-K & KINDERGARTEN
In our preschool room, you'll find kids learning a new scripture-focused lesson as part of a monthly theme. Our lessons include a big idea, monthly memory verse, and prayer time, along with themed activities and crafts. A short Bible story video helps reinforce the scripture.
Discipleship Hour - Room 307
All preschoolers - 5th graders start in room 304 for large group time.
-
elementary
Our elementary kids are divided into two age groups (1st & 2nd, 3rd - 5th). Kids learn the same big ideas and focus on the same memory verse as our preschool and kindergarten group, but with a deeper dive into the scriptures. These lessons also include time for response, reflection, as well as themed activities and crafts.

safety
Our kids' spaces are designed to be a safe place where children can learn new and exciting things about God while being led and cared for by trained adults from our congregation. All of our volunteers are Safe Gatherings trained, which includes a background check. Parents and children also receive matching codes during the check-in to ensure the child's safety.
-
curriculum
We use Grow curriculum which takes kids through every major Bible story in three years. Every year, an equal amount of time is spent in the Old and New Testaments — six months each! The Old Testament is taught chronologically over three years, while the New Testament is taught chronologically every year (but with new stories each time). You can learn more about Grow by clicking here.
-
parent resources
Each week, kids are given a "Grow at Home" paper which includes the week's scripture, big idea, monthly memory verse, and a few questions to continue the conversation at home. We also encourage parents to follow our Facebook page, where we share lesson recaps, video resources, music playlists, and much more.
Hang tight while we look up scheduled events...
Compassion INternational Sponsorship
Our children and youth groups at New McKendree have sponsored Jackline Agrey from Tanzania through Compassion International since June 20, 2011! That's over $5000 of financial support that has helped her and her family receive spiritual nourishment, food, healthcare, education, clothes, school supplies and so much more. We have written countless letters back and forth over the years. We share scripture and prayer requests. Please pray for her when you see this and consider making a financial donation so we can continue to support her until she graduates the program.
Our children and youth Sunday school classes currently have the opportunity to give weekly. Children at South Campus can give at the a special offering table with Jackline's picture on it!
If you would like to make a contribution to support Jackline's sponsorship, you can make a check to New McKendree UMC with "Jackline" in the memo line or you can click the GIVE button below to use Tithely to donate online.
